5 on Friday ~ Online Freebies for Churches!

I’m sure you have seen or heard about many of these, but take a look and see what’s new. Pass them around to others. Then tell us of others you know about – share the love of freebies!

  • Google Voice: Are you tired of giving out four or more numbers (church office, home, cell, home office, etc.) so people can reach you? With Google Voice, you get one phone number and you  decide which device it rings. If you don’t like listening to voice-mail messages,  Google Voice will transcribe the message and can send it to you in an e-mail. This tool can be a great asset!
  • Agapage: Are you unsure if your church can afford a paging system for the childcare department? Agapage is a free service you use to send a text message to a child’s guardian when the child is in need. Forget about purchasing pagers. Simply text  adults on their cell phones. This would be an invaluable tool for churches with a day care center or preschool.
  • Aviary: This website offers free photo, vector illustration, video and audio editing. Aviary does not require downloads;  it is all Web-based. The site offers fun competitions that can give you an idea of how your work stands up with the rest of the community.
  • Go2Convert: If you can’t afford Adobe’s Creative Suite or Photoshop Extended, never fear, Go2Convert is here! This free online tool will take any file (BMP, DIP, JPG, EPS, PCX, PDF, PNG, PSD, SVG, TGA) and convert it to an easy-to-use format that you can open on your computer. Whether you are a graphic designer or a secretary putting together a bulletin, this online tool is a must!
  • Inkscape is an open source vector graphics editor. It does not have all the tools that Adobe Illustrator has, but it also doesn’t have a price tag. We’ll let you pick. Check out the Inkscape galleries to fully understand its power. Inkscape runs on Linux, Windows 2000/2003/XP, and OSX. Download it here. The online book on Inkscape will get you started.
Here’s a bonus this week:
  • Free Website Design Tool – Well, duh on this one! WordPress is Web software you can use to create a beautiful website or blog. Thousands of plug-ins and themes are available. WordPress Driven Church has tutorials on how to use WordPress and offers many themes specifically geared towards Christian ministry.
  • Then go to FreeBookSpot for over 250 popular titles in Christian reading. These are available for Kindle, Nook, pdf downloads – and more! Start your small group reading program or Bible Study with no cost to the participants!
  • LibriVox provides free audiobooks from the public domain. There are several options for listening. The first step is to get the mp3 or ogg files into your own computer!
So, what do you use free online that would benefit others in Church ministry? Pass it on!
